Legal and ethical

What legal and ethical issues might occur during your production process?

Legal:

Use of music.

Logos on clothing, which is a form of advertisement.

Permission to film in certain places (in our case, it is a village hall).

Ethical:

Use of weapons, however we will use toy guns for props.

Use of makeup to create a bullet hole and bruises on somebody.

Will any content cause offence? Why? Consider violence, offensive material through
behaviour/language.

Legal:

Using copyrighted music could offended the artist as we would not have their permission.

The logos on clothing would be used without permission from the companies.

Ethical:

The use of weapons can upset some people as they may find it distressing, or see it as a
promotion of violence.

The makeup on the victim’s body may also be distressing, as it showcases blood and bruises.

Is your film opening considerate of your target audience? Where would you place your
film and why?

Our film opening is considerate of the target audience because our target audience is for all
genders, and for years 15-19. It is also set at a party, so the opening would be more
interesting for the audience. However, it is also styled as a film noir set in the present day, so
it would make the film more different from recent films in cinemas.

Have you used anything that will cause copyright issues?

We have made sure that we do not use anything that is copyrighted in our film to avoid any
copyright claims. We did this by not showing any logos, using royalty free music/making our
own, and not mentioning any companies/products.

Once you have found out all the legal and ethical issues that your film may contain,
start to think about how you would overcome or resolve these issues.

• Music will be royalty free/created by ourselves.
• Clothing will not have any logos on them.
• The victim’s body will not be too graphic.
• Permission to film in village hall

The film is for entertainment purposes. We will not be educating anyone on anything

Release forms will be signed by the actors/actresses, including extras, so that we have
everyone’s permission to be in the film.
